Marine Life

Marine Life Fun Dive Package Dive Boats Diving on Koh Tao Chumphon Marine Park MARINE LIFE Chumphon marine life is diverse and impressive. Vibrant corals, colourful fish, cruising turtles, and the possibility to dive with a whale shark. With calm seas and clear waters for most of the diving season, there is much to see. Whether you join us for a PADI course or fun diving trip, you’ll get to explore some beautiful dive sites. Our experienced team of Instructors and Dive Masters know where to find all the best marine life in the Chumphon Marine Park, and will make sure you get to see as much as possible. In general, our divers are interested in four different categories of marine life: ●  Our corals – Without which Chumphon marine life would be nowhere near as varied and spectacular. ●  The big stuff – Whale sharks and other large marine creatures like turtles and passing rays. ●  Fish – Brightly coloured fish of all shapes and sizes have made the Chumphon Marine Park reefs their home. ●  The small stuff – For some divers, finding new nudibranch or minute crustaceans in the cracks and crevices is what it’s all about. Marine Life OUR CORALS Corals are the unsung heroes of our tropical ecosystem. Without the corals, there’d be way fewer fish to look at, and the dive sites would be much less colourful and awe-inspiring. Corals form the very foundation of the reef on which all other life forms thrive. Corals are typically separated into two varieties: hard corals and soft corals. Hard corals include boulder coral, brain coral, staghorn coral, and table coral. Soft coral species include whip coral, fan coral, bubble coral, carnation coral, sun coral, and cup coral. Our Corals THE BIG STUFF Sharks are a major attraction on every diver’s bucket list. For many, the chance to swim with a whale shark is the ultimate diving holiday experience. Whale sharks are more common at Chumphon dive sites than on Koh Tao and can be seen regularly, although the best time is usually between March and June. Other shark species can also be spotted cruising the marine park, as can several turtles and a few different species of stingray. The Big Stuff THE SMALL STUFF If you’re a macro lover, then Chumphon dive sites will not disappoint. If you take your time and look closely during your dives, you’ll be rewarded with some great finds. Keep a look out for nudibranchs on the reef walls and critters like shrimp, crabs, and octopus hiding in the cracks and crevices of the inner reef. Whatever time you visit, and whether you choose to dive only in Chumphon or book a package that also includes diving on Koh Tao, we’re sure that you will leave with spectacular underwater memories that last a lifetime. If you’re planning your trip around specific marine life sightings, be sure to let us know in advance so we can help you arrange the best possible schedule. The Small Stuff OUR FISH There is an abundance of resident fish in Chumphon Marine Park, comprising both reef dwellers and pelagic species. Common sightings of reef fish include butterflyfish, angelfish, bannerfish, parrotfish, groupers, anemonefish, lionfish, pufferfish and filefish. Schooling pelagic species include snapper, barracuda, jackfish, and even the occasional swordfish. Our Fish

Diving On Koh Tao

Koh Tao Fun Dive Packages Dive Boats Marine Life Chumphon Marine Park DIVING ON KOH TAO Go diving on Koh Tao with Sensui Dive Resort and experience the best dive sites in the Gulf of Thailand. We offer you flexible packages for PADI Open Water Diver and Advanced Open Water Diver courses that allow you to see the best of Chumphon Marine Park and go diving on Koh Tao. Scuba diving on Koh Tao is famous for its vibrant coral reefs and abundance of marine life. Just like at Chumphon dive sites, there is lots to see and options available for every level of diver. Koh Tao is just over 70km from Chumphon Marine Park. However, you don’t need to go far in the Gulf of Thailand for the underwater landscape to change. By integrating dive sites in both locations into our dive course packages, we aim to provide you with the best of both worlds and show you as much variety underwater as possible. The waters around Koh Tao are calm and clear for most of the year, and currents are usually mild. The coral reefs begin within just a few metres of the shoreline and encircle the island. There are also some deeper pinnacles a few miles offshore. Transit times to reach the dives sites range from 20 minutes to an hour. The dive boats are comfortable and provide complimentary snacks and refreshments. Koh Tao KOH TAO DIVING SITES   The dive sites are normally busier on Koh Tao compared to diving in Chumphon, but you will get to see plenty of beautiful marine life. The specific dive sites we visit depend on certification levels and the weather conditions, but some examples include: Japanese Gardens – A coral-packed dive site just off the eastern coast of the Instagram famous island of Koh NangYuan. Mango Bay – A shallow, sandy bay at the far north of the island flanked by walls of coral on either side. Twins – A set of two large bouldery pinnacles covered in corals with a swim-through opportunity on the northern edge. White Rock – One of the biggest and most popular sites for diving on Koh Tao, there is plenty to see as you traverse the corals, sand, and rocky boulders. Green Rock – A dive site comprising several interlocking pinnacles with several swim-throughs and a small cave to explore. HTMS Sattakut – Our divers love to visit this sister ship of the HTMS Prab. HTMS Sattakut is almost identical in design, just a little bit deeper! Shark Island – A small island on the Southeast corner of Koh Tao, where carpet corals, whip corals, and an array of fan corals stretch into the distance. Chumphon Pinnacle – Sets of enormous granite pinnacles extend upwards from the sea bed. Covered in anemones and attracting plenty of pelagic fish schools, this is a firm favourite among Koh Tao divers. Southwest Pinnacles – With schools of pelagics, lots of cracks and crevices for macro life, and large overhangs for bigger fish to hide under, there’s plenty to see for all levels of diver. Interested in going diving on Koh Tao? Contact us for an informal chat about schedules and options.

Dive Sites

Chumphon Dive Sites Marine Life Dive Boats Diving on Koh Tao Chumphon Marine Park Chumphon dive sites comprise coral reefs, small islands, and wrecks. All are home to an array of vibrant marine life, including whalesharks, turtles, and an abundance of tropical fish. Chumphon marine park is extensive but only sees a fraction of the underwater visitorscompared to other popular locations for SCUBA diving in Thailand. With over 40 separate islands and thousands of species of marine life, dive sites within Chumphon Marine Park have long been embracedby the local Thai diving community. Now becoming more popular with the broader SCUBA diving community, Chumphon dive sites arewaiting to be explored by both new and experienced divers on PADI courses and fun diving trips.Far from a secondary diving destination, SCUBA diving in Chumphon is as good as diving on Koh Tao – only without the hordes of otherscuba divers. The reefs are spectacular, and each dive site has its own distinct characteristics. So if you’ve been diving on Koh Tao andenjoyed it, Chumphon dive sites will not disappoint. Koh Ngam Yai Best Times: February – October Koh Ngam Yai is the larger of two island formations located just 17 kilometres off the coast of Chumphon. The underwater landscape consists of limestone with sparse vegetation amidst the natural, almost artistic, rock structures. Truly one of the best Chumphon dive sites, Koh Ngam Yai is popular with both SCUBA divers and snorkellers and is considered one of the most famous spots in the Gulf of Thailand for both activities. The colourful corals are home to many fish species, and the mild currents and exceptional visibility make it a firm favourite for Sensui Dive Resort customers. Hin Pae Best Times: February – October Hin Pae is located north of Koh Ngam Yai and is a unique dive site formed by an assembly of rocks that barely protrude the surface. The main point of interest is provided by the wreck of a Thai shipping vessel that sunk in a storm a few years ago. Since sinking, the ship has been slowly disassembling, with various parts finding new homes scattered across the reef. The maximum depth is 24m, but 10-15m is usually the optimum depth. Hin Pae is abundant in sea anemones, black corals, sea whips, giant clams, butterflyfish, barracuda, stingrays, turtles, and even whale sharks are spotted occasionally. Koh Ngam Noi Best Times: February – October Koh Ngam Noi lies 400 meters south of Koh Ngam Yai. It is only a third of the size of its sister island but very alike in its beauty. The best diving spot is at the southern tip, where there is a naturally formed swim-trough. Most divers stay close to the rocks as this is one of the best Chumphon dive sites to search for different types of nudibranch. Schools of fish include snappers, jackfish, and yellowtail barracuda, and blue-spotted stingrays can often be spotted on the sand. HTMS Prab 741 Wreck Best Times: February – October The vessel was commissioned in 1944 and was originally designed by the US Navy for Pacific island-hopping campaigns in World War II. In time, it was handed to the Thai Navy and used as a training vessel before being decommissioned. The ship was donated to Chumphon Province in 2011 for use as an artificial reef, and is now considered one of Chumphon’s best dive sites. The HTMS Prab lies at a shallow depth giving PADI Open Water divers easy access. A variety of marine life can be spotted, including large schools of one-spot snapper, fusiliers, and even the occasional hawksbill turtle or whale shark. Hin Lak Ngam Best Times: February – October Koh Hin Ngam is a small island of polished black volcanic rock formed by the ebb and flow of waves hitting its walls for thousands of years. It is located 2.5km south of Koh Ngam Noi and comprises two rocky outcrops. The maximum depth is 20m, visibility is usually good, and currents are mild. This dive site is well known for its healthy corals, including staghorn, table, brain, cabbage, and black varieties. Barrel sponges and anemone beds surround the island, and resident fish species include triggerfish, pufferfish, porcupinefish, and Moorish idols. Sam Laem Best Times: February – October This dive site gets its name from the three large rock pillars which have formed underwater in the shape of a triangle. Sam Laem, meaning ‘triangle’ in Thai, has a maximum depth of around 30 metres, and visibility is typically around 20 metres. This makes it an excellent option for fun divers who want to explore a little deeper, or students on PADI Advanced Open Water courses or Deep Specialty dives on the PADI Master Scuba Diver course.

About Us

About Us Our Story 潜水Early Chinese characters were made up of drawings that used pictures or symbols to represent words and ideas instead of sounds. In fact, most characters were originally intended as visual representations or pictographs of natural physical elements like day & night, trees, mountains, water and humans. And the combination of these symbols into a larger logogram often derived a meaning that is greater than the sum of all its parts. That is the foundation of our  resort name 潜水. 潜水The japanese words Sensui, or qián shuǐ in mandarin, while pronounced slightly differently, mean the same thing in both the Japanese and Mandarin language – Diving! The component “氵” represents ‘water’, which is the natural environment in which diving activities occur. Next we have “夫” which represents ‘man’. And, seemingly to emphasize the importance of having a buddy while diving, “夫夫” is used. Finally, ”日” represents ‘day’ and suggests that back in the old days when there was no way to use light underwater, this was an activity to be carried out during the dayWhen the symbols combine, a new meaning is formed telling the story and representing diving as an activity carried out in water by buddies during the day. It suggests also that diving dates back many many centuries and was an activity carried out even back then. At Sensui Dive Resort, we want you to come and enjoy this ancient activity to experience our wonderful underwater world below with friends while always staying safe! So come join us as we go 潜水!  Our Mission Our mission is simple and straight to the point:Equip divers of all levels with safe, skill-building, life-enhancing underwater experiences while preserving the natural beauty of Thailand’s marine ecosystem. We don’t chase trends. We stick to what has always worked—expert training, responsible exploration, and hospitality that feels personal, not transactional. How to get to Chumphon by Plane Chumphon Airport is less than an hour away. You can fly into Chumphon from Bangkok with Nok Air or Air Asia. Nok Air also offers flights from several other domestic locations, including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Udon Thani. Bangkok flights depart from Don Mueng Airport. The airlines that service Chumphon airport are low-cost carriers so meals and checked luggage are not included in the fare. You’ll need to factor this into your travel budget, especially if you plan to bring your dive equipment with you. Flying before diving is no problem, but remember to leave a 12-18 hour surface interval between your last dive and return journey. How to get to Chumphon by Bus The public bus network in Thailand covers travel from various hubs, including Bangkok, Phuket, Surat Thani, and Ranong. However, journey times can be long, and delays are not unusual. So most visitors prefer to travel with a private operator or book a minivan service through a local travel agent. From Bangkok, night buses leave from the Southern Bus Terminal, Sai Tai Mai. However, many prefer the privately operated Lomprayah service, which departs from the Khao San road area. How to get to Chumphon by Train Getting to Chumphon by train is easy from Bangkok, because Chumphon is one of the main stops on the Southern Line. Departing from Hualamphong Station, you can choose to travel by day or night. The journey time varies between 8-10 hours, depending on whether you book a rapid or express train. Many travellers prefer to take a night train so they can sleep on the way. First-class births are all air-conditioned. Second class tickets are available with either AC or fan, and third-class tickets are fan-only. If you are coming from Kanchanaburi, you can book a ticket from Phetburiand Nakhon Pathom, or alternatively, jump onboard at Hua Hin or Prachuap Khiri Khan. Trains are also available from as far south as Sungai Kolok, which is good for visitors travelling north into Thailand from Malaysia. Travelling by train from Trang or Nakhon Si Thammarat is also straightforward, and Suratthani is just a couple of hours away by train. How to get to Chumphon by Boat If you are coming to Chumphon from one of the Gulf Islands, you have the choice of daytime catamaran or speedboat services through Lomprayah, or sleeper boats that depart in the late evening and arrive into Chumphon early the following morning. Our resort is located right opposite the night boat ferry pier for easy check-in upon arrival. How to get to Chumphon by Private Taxi If you’re traveling with a larger group or a lot of dive gear – or both – then a private taxi could be the best option for getting to Chumphon. Prices are reasonable, departure times flexible, and you can make stops along the way as and when you decide. So this can be a great way to travel stress-free while also seeing more sights along the way. Getting around Chumphon For short journeys, motorbike taxis and tuk-tuks are readily available. Car and scooter rental is also an option if you’d like to explore independently during your stay. Chumphon has a wonderful coastline, and there are lots of beautiful beaches and points of interest to visit. Our top picks include the Prince of Chumphon Shrine Khao Matsee Viewpoint, Thung Wua Laen Beach, Cabana Beach, and Mu Ko Chumphon Marine Park. And of course, no stay in Chumphon would be complete without a visit to the bustling Night Plaza. Book Now
